Parent Lifeline (Helpline for Parents)

What do we offer to parents?

A telephone helpline

We offer emotional support and understanding to parents under stress of any kind, whatever the ages of their children. Parent Lifeline is not just a helpline for times of crisis, but for any time that a mother or father feels the need for someone to turn to and talk things over with a sympathetic listener. Parents may feel more comfortable talking to us first rather than approaching someone in a position of authority, which for some is a bit daunting. Callers often gain confidence after speaking to us, as they have been given time to discuss their options and encouragement to carry on and to get help if necessary. They can let off steam to us or tell us how depressed or lonely they feel without fear of criticism. Even though we may not have had the caller’s particular problem, we are all parents and know what a hard job it can be at times. We believe that asking for help is a sign of responsibility, not a mark of failure. We can often suggest further avenues of help if the caller wishes. Callers may wish to remain anonymous.
