Parent Lifeline gives parents the opportunity to talk about their
difficulties however big or small and regardless of the age of the
child. We hope that by offering parents understanding, sympathy and
support, together with enough time to explore their feeling, they will
feel better able to cope with their situation. Parents are often unprepared for some of the negative aspects of having children – the emotional and physical strain which is experienced from time to time or the unexpected hostile and negative feelings one can have towards one’s child. Experiencing such feelings can lead to feelings of guilt, isolation and shame. Parents may feel more comfortable talking to us first rather than approaching someone in a position of authority, which for some is a bit daunting. Callers often gain confidence after speaking to us, as they have been given time to discuss their options and encouragement to carry on and to get help if necessary. They can let off steam to us or tell us how depressed or lonely they feel without fear of criticism. Even though we may not have had the caller’s particular problem, we are all parents and know what a hard job it can be at times. Also see: | Latest news
